India’s rookie batter Jitesh Sharma feels this is the best time to test players for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Sharma has impressed with his skills as he can hit the ground running. The right-hander had done a fine job for Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 as he had added the finishing touches.
Jitesh Sharma scored 319 runs in 14 matches for PBKS in IPL 2023 at a blistering strike rate of 156.06 and he will look to carry the good show. The right-hander had played selflessly and provided finishing touches to the team on numerous occasions.
Ergo, Sharma made a case for himself for the T20I squad, which is to be picked for the West Indies tour.
“I feel whatever preparation you do for a World Cup when you represent your country, it begins about a year and a half before the event. With the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies, I feel it is the best time to test the players who will be playing in that World Cup,” said Jitesh Sharma in an interview with Sportskeeda.
As the 2024 T20 World Cup will be played in the Caribbean, Jitesh reckons it will be crucial for the Indian players to get acclimatise to the conditions.
“It will be great for them to get used to those conditions in the West Indies and realize how the wickets play and perform accordingly. This will only help them be comfortable when they travel to the T20 World Cup next year,” Jitesh added.
It will be interesting to note if Jitesh Sharma gets a call-up to India’s T20I squad for the West Indies tour. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, India has backed Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat and they could give a few chances to Jitesh Sharma as he has impressed with the bat.
India will next take on West Indies in two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
