Indian opener Shubman Gill has said skipper Rohit Sharma gives a lot of freedom to players. Sharma has been doing a fine job in getting the best out of his players and India have the right momentum moving into the World Cup.
Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India recently lifted their eighth Asia Cup title. Subsequently, India has also beaten Australia in the first two matches while playing under KL Rahul’s leadership.
Gill revealed that Rohit Sharma tells coaches to let the players be their own judge when they are on the field.
“He gives a lot of freedom to players to express themselves. He tells the coaches as well to let the players make their own decisions on the field and that the player should be the best judge, and that is his best quality as a player and captain,” Shubman Gill said in an interview with Jio Cinema.
Gill has been in stellar form in 2023, scoring 1230 runs in 20 ODI matches at an unbelievable average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. Out of his total six ODI centuries, five have come in the ongoing year.
Gill scored a fine knock of 104 runs off just 97 balls in the second ODI against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, and added 200 runs with Shreyas Iyer.
“Yes, this year has been great for me. The preparation for the World Cup has been good. We have gotten good momentum from the Asia Cup as well. I think peaking at the right time is crucial ahead of a big tournament with so many matches,” Gill said.
Meanwhile, Gill has been rested for the final ODI against Australia, which will be played in Rajkot on Wednesday.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will hold the key for India in the upcoming World Cup and they will look to give solid starts to the team at the top of the order.
