Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin showered praise on Deepti Sharma for her consistent performances in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. Ashwin tipped Deepti as the world’s best all-rounder after India won the ODI showpiece.
Deepti returned with impressive figures of 5-39 in 9.3 overs she bowled in the summit clash against South Africa at Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Furthermore, Deepti scored a run-a-ball knock of 58 runs to help India post 298 runs on the board. The all-rounder was awarded Player of the Tournament after she ended as the leading wicket-taker with 22 scalps in nine matches.
Deepti also scored 215 runs in seven innings of the ODI showpiece and thus delivered with both bat and ball.
“Actually, the most talked-about name in this World Cup is Deepti Sharma. I need to tell my friend Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), sorry, all the all-rounders. World’s best all-rounder in ODIs. She averages 35-36 with the bat, 26 with the ball.”
“She can bowl a yorker where there is a need. She can bowl off-spin when there is a need. And crucial runs again. Yesterday, when Harmanpreet Kaur was out, there was a stable hand. Deepti Sharma, player of the tournament,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Deepti was able to provide a crucial breakthrough of Sune Luus when she was building a promising alliance with skipper Laura Wolvaardt. Furthermore, Deepti accounted for the South African captain, with Amanjot Kaur taking a fine diving catch.
Deepti said she enjoys whatever situation she is in and tries to give her best on the field.
“I always enjoy whatever department I’m in. Whatever situation I’m in, because I like challenges. Today, I got the same thing that I had a ball in my hand and bat in hand. I had to play according to that situation. And I enjoyed a lot. And what better moment than this to go on stage and perform as an all-rounder for your team. It can’t be more amazing than this,” she said in the post-match presentation on Sunday.
Deepti would look to continue the good show for the team.
