It was a historic day in women’s cricket on Monday as five Women Premier League teams assembled their squads in the auction at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. A total of 448 players went under the hammer, out of which 87 players were picked by the five teams. Out of the 87 players, 47 were Indians were 30 were overseas players as a total of INR 59.50 crores were spent collectively by five teams.
Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants were the teams who took part in the auction.
Indian opener Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player as she was brought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping amount of INR 3.40 crores. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was roped in by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crores.
