England’s former captain Nasser Hussain feels Kyle Jamieson’s impact on International cricket has been massive. Jamieson has had a dream start to his Test career as he has scalped 44 wickets in the eight Test matches he has played (still one inning to go).
The lanky paceman has taken a total of five five-wicket hauls in his young Test career. The fast bowler was right on the money in the first innings of the World Test Championship final against India.
The Kiwi fast bowler was able to set up his RCB captain, Virat Kohli beautifully. The fast bowler got the ball to move away from the talisman and then got one ball to move back into him to plumb him in front of the wickets. Kohli’s head fell over slightly towards the off-side and he could not make the connection with the ball.
The fast bowler returned with figures of 5/31 and played a key role in skittling out the Indian team for a paltry score of 217 runs. Apart from Kohli, Jamieson got the big wickets of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma on successive balls.
“His (Kyle Jamieson) impact on International cricket and his consistency is huge. He has played eight test matches and has already got five fifers. To have such an immediate impact is huge,” Nasser Hussain was quoted as saying by the ICC during the ongoing WTC final.
Hussain added that Jamieson is a quick learner and he has taken giant strides since making his Test debut.
He said: “Jamieson came here, and he learned to bowl fuller. The way he has changed his angles during the match, it seems he is a quick learner.
“To come to this massive match, the ultimate Test as a novice and putting on such a performance. He is going to be a superstar in the future,” said Hussain.
On the other hand, Jamieson believes the ball to Virat Kohli could have got any batsman out and he added it was pleasing to dismiss the Indian skipper. New Zealand are in a commanding position at 101-2 and they trail by 116 runs.
