Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has stated that Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson have led their teams brilliantly. Both Kohli and Williamson have led from the front and the results have been palpable. Both the skippers have got the best out of their teams and they have done a fine job.
Meanwhile, India had won 12 matches out of the 17 they played in the World Test Championship cycle 2019-21 and they finished at the top of the points table with a win percentage of 72.2. New Zealand, on the other hand, won seven matches in the WTC cycle and finished at the second place in the table with a win percentage of 70.
Speaking to Sports Today, Brendon McCullum said: “Both Virat and Kane have led their sides brilliantly. Their own forms have been superb. To be able to qualify for the WTC final is a massive achievement.”
“To reach the final of WTC, they needed the results for a long period. You have to force the situations in Test cricket to garner success in the longest format of the game. Both captains have pushed their teams to excel, and I believe they rightfully deserve the opportunity to play in the final,” McCullum added.
“Apart from being great leaders, they are two giants of the International game at his point of time. One of the amazing qualities they both have is to get the best out of those around them. It has helped them to achieve some special things for their countries,” said McCullum.
Meanwhile, McCullum had earlier stated that New Zealand will be favourite by 60-40 in the World Test Championship final against India. The Kiwis will be able to get used to the conditions as they will play two Test matches against England, one of which is currently underway at Lord’s.
On the other hand, both Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson will hold a key role for their teams not only as captains but also as leaders in the WTC final. The WTC final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
