Royal Challengers Bengaluru fast bowler Yash Dayal’s father, Chanderpal Dayal, has showered praise on Virat Kohli for getting the best out of his son. Chanderpal revealed that Kohli has consistently backed the fast bowler and has played an instrumental role in making him a fearless cricketer.
On Saturday, Rajat Patidar gave the final over to Dayal when CSK needed 15 runs off the final over at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Dayal was able to nail his yorkers and conceded 12 runs to help his team get over the line in a thrilling finish.
The left-arm pacer was smashed for a six on a waist-high full-toss when 13 runs were required off the final three balls, bringing down the equation to six runs off three balls. However, Dayal was able to nail his yorkers and conceded only four runs on the next three deliveries.
Meanwhile, Dayal had faced a lot of backlash after he was hit for 30 runs by Rinku Singh in the final over in IPL 2023 but Dayal Sr. revealed Virat Kohli backed him during the low phase of his career.
Chanderpal Dayal said on TOI, “Virat Kohli has supported him a lot. When Yash joined RCB, Virat would often call him to his room — and sometimes, he would go to Yash’s room himself. They discussed that over [from 2023], and Virat told him one thing: ‘Keep working hard, toofan macha de. Main hoon tere saath. Chinta mat karna. Mehnat karna mat chhodna. Galtiyan karna, par seekhna aur aage badhna.’ Virat has given him a lot of freedom and turned him into a fearless cricketer.”
“I have seen many cricketers break down, especially bowlers, but Virat has connected them with his own hands.”
Chanderpal added that even the fans must have given up in the final over against CSK but he was confident that his son would deliver.
“It’s never over till the last ball is bowled in cricket. Yash is more mature now. I’m sure even the fans had given up — my family did too. But I was confident that Yash would pull it off. And he did. His calmness was the key in this match,” said Chanderpal Dayal ( via aforementioned source).
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday.
