Yash Thakur has been named as replacement for injured Harshit Rana for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan and Asian Games. Thakur made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe and picked four wickets in two matches.

The right-arm pacer from Vidarbha earned his India call-up after an impressive performance during last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he bagged 18 wickets in seven games.

Meanwhile, Harshit Rana, who was rehabilitating from a hamstring injury at the Centre of Excellence, was ruled out after sustaining another injury. A statement from the BCCI has confirmed the injury to be a rectus femoris strain sustained while bowling during a match simulation on September 7.

On the other hand, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah have also been named in the squad but the trio’s final selection is subject to fitnes clearance. Bumrah had suffered a knee injury on the England tour, which had also ruled him out of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

India are also scheduled to play a historic one-off T20I against Japan prior to the Asian Games. The Men in Blue will begin their Asian Games campaign in on September 28 in Nisshin, Japan. 

The first T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on 13th September. The second and third game of the series will be played on 15th and 17 September respectively at the same venue.
