Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels Yashasvi Jaiswal should be in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Jaiswal has impressed in his young career and has shown the skills to go a long way in his career.
The left-hander made an impressive debut against the West Indies as he scored a patient knock of 171 runs and played a key role in India’s massive win of an innings and 141 runs. Jaiswal had added 229 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma for the opening alliance. Ergo, he was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock.
Jaiswal continued his good form in the second Test match against the Windies, scoring 57 runs in the first innings and added 139 runs with Rohit Sharma for the opening stand.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal scored 625 runs in 14 IPL 2023 matches at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61 while playing for Rajasthan Royals. Thus, he was awarded Emerging Player of the Tournament for his impressive performances.
“In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches,” Gambhir said on News18.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Rinku Singh had also impressed with his skills. Singh had a terrific run in IPL 2023, scoring 474 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. The southpaw scored a total of four fifties and did a fine job for KKR. Gambhir also lauded the Uttar Pradesh’s left-hander for his consistent performances.
“Rinku Singh’s story is inspiring and he has performed well as well. But do not select anyone after one season. Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL and score runs again and if he is consistent then you can think of adding him to the Indian team,” Gambhir concluded.
The young Indian players are rising through the ranks and they must be growing in confidence by performing consistently .
