Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has picked India drawing the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, as the best moment of the Anderson-Tendulkar series. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored centuries on the final day of the fourth Test to help India get a draw.
While Jadeja scored an unbeaten knock of 107 runs, Sundar scored his maiden Test hundred, scoring 101 runs. The left-handed duo added 203 runs for the fifth wicket to help India stay alive in the series.
Yuvraj noted that Jadeja is an experienced campaigner; however, he lauded Washington Sundar for scoring a fine hundred under pressure as a young player.
“The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test match at Manchester. I’ve never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test,” Yuvraj said while speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the ‘50 Days To Go’ Women’s Cricket World Cup event.
“That speaks volumes. Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, I think it was incredible to do what he did,” Yuvraj said.
“I think it’s just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it’s a lot of pressure,” Yuvraj added.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill was able to lead from the front as he scored 754 runs in five Test matches at an average of 75.40. Yuvraj noted there were doubts raised on Gill as he was averaging only 25 outside the Indian subcontinent.
“There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It’s just unbelievable that when you’re given responsibility, how you take it,” Yuvraj said.
“So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it’s a win for us, although it’s a drawn series, because it’s a young team. And it’s not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself,” Yuvraj added.
Shubman Gill will lead the North Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
