Former Indian swashbuckling batter Yuvraj Singh has stressed the importance of playing domestic cricket. Singh said every player should look to play in the domestic circuit if he isn’t injured.
Veteran batters – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – have been under the spotlight for not playing for their respective states in the Ranji Trophy. While Rohit played for Mumbai in 2015, Kohli last featured for Delhi in 2012.
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir also recently said that every player should make himself available for domestic cricket if there is time
Gambhir had said in the presser after 1-3 series loss against Australia, “I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket. That is how much importance domestic cricket needs to be given. Not only one game. If they are available and they have the commitment to play red ball cricket, everyone should play domestic cricket.”
It is worth mentioning that the Indian team has a hectic schedule and thus the previous management has paid special attention to managing players’ workload.
“It is very important to play domestic cricket. Everyone should play domestic cricket if they are not injured and if they have the time,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant are all set to play in the Ranji Trophy. However, there is still no confirmation on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s participation even though the former was seen practicing with Mumbai Ranji Trophy team.
Indian batters could not deliver consistent performances on the Australian tour as the visitors could only breach the 200-run mark on three occasions in nine innings and thus the batters are under the scanner.
India will next take on England in five T20Is and three ODIs.
