India’s off-spinner Washington Sundar has revealed his focus is to give 100 per cent every single day and not fill Ravindra Jadeja’s spot in the team after India’s 23-run win against Zimbabwe in the third T20I. Jadeja announced his retirement after India lifted the T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in the final.
Meanwhile, Sundar is known to bowl an accurate line and length and he is a not a big turner of the ball, just like Jadeja. The off-spinner brought his best against Zimbabwe in the third T20I of the series at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on Wednesday, returning with impressive figures of 3-15 in his quota of four overs.
Sundar accounted for Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, Jonathan Campbell, and Clive Madande in his fine spell. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the Match for restricting Zimbabwe to 159-6.
“I need to do well where I am good at and what I am capable of, especially with my preparation. I need to give my 100 per cent every single day. That’s something that I have not compromised on,” Washington said in the post-match press when asked whether he is ready to seal the spot in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja.
Meanwhile, Sundar could only play two matches for SRH in IPL 2024 and lost his place to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Sundar added he is confident about his abilities and wants to keep up the good work.
“It (preparing well) keeps me in the present and obviously I am very confident as well (about his skills). It’s a great opportunity for me to play for India, and I am blessed with it,” he added.
“I need to keep my job consistently and keep preparing and keep getting better. That way everything will be taken care of,” Sundar concluded on the matter.
The fourth T20I of the series will be played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on Saturday.
