Rajasthan Royals’ director of cricket Zubin Baruch believes Vaibhav Suryavanshi needs to be fast-tracked like Sachin Tendulkar. Suryavanshi, 14, has impressed with his pyrotechnics and played with an aggressive approach in IPL 2025 for the inaugural champions.
The youngster recently scored 113 runs off just 86 balls in the first Youth Test against Australia Under-19 at the Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane. Furthermore, Suryavanshi scored 124 runs in three ODIs against Australia Under-19 at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 112.73.
Moreover, Suryavanshi scored 252 runs in seven matches of IPL 2025 at a blistering strike rate of 206.55. The left-hander scored a mad knock of 101 runs off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans.
“He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago,” RR’s Director of Cricket Zubin Bharucha said in an interview with TOI.
“They have to blood this guy immediately, boss, because he is in another zone only. At least send him on an India A tour. Send him to India A immediately. I’m telling you, this Australian attack that is here, bowling to India A guys — he would have got a double hundred,” he added.
On the other hand, former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour showered praise on the ‘prodigy’ batter for hogging the limelight at the top level.
“He’s got a hundred in England, he’s got a hundred in Australia. And you see what he can do in T20 cricket (IPL). Outstanding for a kid so young,” Rathour said in the same interview.
“He is a prodigy. But the great thing about him is that he’s not flustered at all. It’s not that he scored his hundred and suddenly becomes a big name in Indian cricket at a young age. Nothing has changed. He’s still so grounded and comfortable with all this suddenly happening around him. That’s a great thing to have,” he concluded.
Suryavanshi was dismissed after scoring 20 runs in the second Youth Test against Australia A.
