In a major boost for NorthEast United FC, the club confirmed on Monday that Alaaeddine Ajaraie, the standout star of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season, will remain with the Highlanders for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign.
Ajaraie, who clinched both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball in his debut ISL season, initially signed a one-year deal with an extension clause. The Moroccan forward’s outstanding performance — scoring 29 goals and providing 10 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions — ensured he met the criteria to trigger the contract extension.
“I am happy here; NorthEast feels like home now,” Ajaraie said in a club statement. “My teammates and the staff played a crucial role in my successful first season, and I am confident we can achieve even more together next season. I am eager to continue this journey and win significant titles with this fantastic club.”
The 2024-25 season was nothing short of sensational for the 25-year-old striker. Ajaraie made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut in the Durand Cup against Border Security Force FC. His goalscoring form carried through the season, spearheading NorthEast United to its first-ever piece of silverware.
Ajaraie’s decision to continue with the Guwahati-based club will be welcomed by fans and teammates alike, especially as the Highlanders look to build on their recent success. His chemistry with the squad and influence on the pitch were instrumental in transforming NorthEast United into title contenders.
With Ajaraie staying on, the club will hope to mount a stronger challenge in the ISL and other domestic competitions next season. His presence provides continuity and firepower for a side that has long sought consistency at the top level of Indian football.
NorthEast United FC’s management expressed satisfaction over retaining their marquee player and emphasized their commitment to building a competitive squad around him. The extension of Ajaraie’s contract marks a significant step toward maintaining momentum and aiming for greater achievements in the upcoming season.
