France captain Kylian Mbappe has stated that all his career he has hated losing. Mbappe, who recently joined Real Madrid, considers France’s campaign at Euro 2024 in Germany as a failure after they were knocked out by eventual champions Spain in the semifinal.
Spain registered a 2-1 win against Les Bleus at the Allianz Arena and then went on to win the final against England.
“I am in a place where I have always wanted to be; last year, there was a bit of distance,” Mbappe said in a news conference.
“All my career, I have hated losing. Last year, I just liked winning — now I am back in that mindset of hating failure.”
Mbappé is also delighted to have joined La Liga giants Real Madrid.
“I’m very happy to be in Madrid, it is going very well, we have already won a trophy,” he said, referring to the LaLiga champions’ victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.
“In terms of performance, it is getting better and better, I have scored goals. I always arrive [to the France camp] with the same energy — wanting to help the French team as much as possible.”
Mbappe has rejoined the national team for international duties for the Nations League and France is all set to take on Italy at the Parc des Princes, PSG’s home ground. Mbappe is not sure of the reception he will receive from his home crowd while playing at his former club’s ground.
“What kind of welcome [will I receive]?,” he said when asked about playing at the stadium. “I don’t expect much, I don’t care. The important thing is to win.”
Mbappe has been ticking the right boxes and he will look to deliver the goods for France in the high-octane clash against Italy.
