Arsenal confirm Kai Havertz to miss rest of season with injury

Arsenal have suffered a huge blow as their striker Kai Havertz has been ruled out of the rest of the season with injury. The German suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s midseason training camp in Dubai and the club has confirmed that he will undergo surgery in the next few days.

Havertz’s joins Arsenal’s injury list as Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out with a knee injury. The German forward has played a key role for Mikel Arteta’s team success in the ongoing season, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances.

“We can confirm that Kai Havertz has sustained a hamstring injury during a training session in Dubai last week,” Arsenal said in a statement.

“Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days. Soon after surgery, Kai will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to extend into preseason preparations for next season.

“Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Arsenal also didn’t sign a striker in the January transfer window and thus their decision to not rope in a forward will be questioned.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s winger Bukayo Saka returned to light training earlier this week.

Recently, Arteta showered praise on Kai Havertz for consistently delivering the goods for the club.

“I don’t know … it is a possibility [he could start every game],” Arteta said. “Maybe we go through that scenario and he scores another 15 or 18 goals? Can you imagine? That’s a good scenario.

“Genetically, he is a powerhouse. He is so well-built. He is a player that anything you ask him, he is happy to do: to run in zone six, to be very robust, to make long distances. His body absorbs everything. And then he really looks after himself.

“When you see the professional, how he lives his life, it is immaculate. He does more than any other player there. That is not a coincidence. And then I think he is so intelligent.

Arsenal will next take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
