Roy Krishna has been named as one of the five captains that ATK-Mohun Bagan will have in the new season in the India Super League.
The Mariners’ head coach Antonio Lopez Habas named three Indians and two Foreigners as those who will bear the armband for the new season.
Four of the players given the armband were part of the ATK team that won the India Super League last season.
The team has completed the mandatory quarantine period, and the squad has started practising behind closed doors.
The head coach stated that the captain of the team would be different for different matches. Star striker Roy Krishna and midfielder Edu Garcia are the only foreigners who have been picked for the captainship roles. At the same time, Goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya, Defenders Pritam Kotal and Sandesh Jhingan are the other members who have been picked for the role.
ATK-Mohun Bagan has registered 27 first-team players for the new season, and the reason behind multiple captains in the team is because the Spanish coach wants to build team game.
ATK Mohun Bagan first game of the 2020-2021 India Super League season will be against rivals Kerala Blasters on November 20.
ATK-Mohun Bagan was formed from a merger of the two league Champions of top-flight league football in India last season.
I-League Champions Mohun Bagan merged with India Super League champion Atletico De Kolkota during the offseason.
The 2020-2021 India Super League season will be played in Goa behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, I-League side Gokulam Kerala has appointed ex-India international NM Najeeb as reserves coach.
The Ex-India international and former East Bengal, Titanium, and Mohammedans SC striker was a former coach with SBT in the National Football League.
