Bengaluru FC have bolstered their midfield options ahead of the new season with the signing of Argentine playmaker Braian Sanchez on a one-year contract, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old midfielder, who hails from General Arenales in Buenos Aires, joins the Blues after an impressive spell in Argentina’s top division with Deportivo Riestra. Sanchez had spent the majority of his professional career in the Primera Nacional, Argentina’s second tier, before making the leap to the Primera Division last season.
During his debut top-flight campaign, Sanchez made an immediate impact, registering three goals and two assists, including a stunning long-range equaliser in a 1–1 draw against Boca Juniors in October 2024. His creative flair and experience are expected to add a new dimension to Bengaluru FC’s attack as the team looks to mount a strong campaign in domestic competitions.
Sanchez joined the Bengaluru squad last month and has already begun training with his new teammates. He is expected to be available for selection in the Super Cup, where Bengaluru will open their campaign against Mohammedan SC on October 30.
Speaking after signing his contract, Sanchez expressed excitement about the new challenge and his eagerness to adapt to Indian football. “I’m very happy to join BFC and be part of a club that has such a strong football culture,” he said. “From my conversations with the other players and staff here, I have understood the passion of the fans, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new environment for me, but I’m ready to contribute to the team’s success in every way possible.”
Bengaluru FC have been active in reshaping their squad as they look to bounce back from a mixed 2024–25 campaign. The arrival of Sanchez, known for his technical sharpness and vision, adds valuable experience to a side blending seasoned campaigners with emerging local talent.
The club’s head coach is expected to deploy Sanchez in an advanced midfield role, where his creativity and ability to control tempo could prove crucial in unlocking defences — particularly in the high-pressure fixtures of the upcoming Super Cup.
With the Argentine now officially part of the Blues’ roster, fans will be eager to see how quickly he settles into life at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, where his flair and leadership could play a key part in reigniting Bengaluru FC’s push for silverware this season.
