Casemiro will leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season, the club has confirmed. The Brazilian midfielder arrived from Real Madrid in 2022. He will part ways with the club on a free transfer after United decided against triggering a one-year option in his contract.
The 33-year-old has played 146 matches for the Red Devils following his £60 million ($81m) move from the Los Blancos, scoring 21 goals.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” said Casemiro.
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.
“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
According to ESPN sources, it was Casemiro’s decision to announce his departure four months early to give “clarity” about his situation.
Casemiro has received interest from Saudi Arabia in the past, but wants to play in Europe in the next season. The Brazilian has all the experience under his belt and he would look to deliver his best. Casemiro achieved a lot of success while playing for Real Madrid, but he could not achieve the same heights with beleaguered Manchester United.
United will next take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League.
