Chelsea has signed the services of Portuguese forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, the club announced on Wednesday. Felix has signed a seven year deal with the Blues in the latest signing of transfer window.
According to ESPN, the two clubs agreed a deal worth in the region of €50 million ($55.4m), including add-ons. Felix made 20 appearances for Chelsea in the previous season on loan, scoring four goals. The striker is delighted to be back at Chelsea and can’t wait to kick start his season.
“I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea and I can’t wait to get started,” Félix said. “I can see some familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice.
“I loved my time here before and I told my friends and family that I’d love to return to the Premier League one day. To do that with Chelsea is a great feeling and I’m excited to be back.”
Felix also played on loan at Barcelona from Atletico in the previous season and scored 10 goals in 44 matches for the Catalan club.
The 24-year-old is the 11th signing for Chelsea after Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jörgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga and Marc Guiu, with Estêvão Willian.
Felix signed for Atletico back in 2019 but scored 34 goals in 131 games for the club as he failed to deliver the goods.
Meanwhile, Chelsea lost the opening match of their Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City by 2-0 despite playing at Stamford Bridge. The Blues will take on Servette in the first leg of the playoff of the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
