Chennaiyin FC Extends Contract of Midfielder Yumkhaibam Jiteshwor Singh Until 2025

Chennaiyin FC, former champions of the Indian Super League (ISL), have announced the extension of midfielder Yumkhaibam Jiteshwor Singh’s contract until 2025. The decision comes in the wake of Jiteshwor’s outstanding performances during the recently concluded ISL season, cementing his place as a pivotal figure in the team’s lineup.

The 22-year-old midfielder from Manipur, who made his ISL debut with Chennaiyin FC in 2022, has quickly established himself as an essential player for the club. Over the course of the season, Jiteshwor’s impressive on-field contributions have not gone unnoticed. He topped the charts for Chennaiyin FC with 25 successful tackles and also registered 14 interceptions, underscoring his defensive prowess and ability to disrupt the opposition’s play.

Chennaiyin FC’s head coach, Owen Coyle, expressed his delight at retaining Jiteshwor, emphasizing the midfielder’s significance to the team’s strategy. “Jitu was never going anywhere. His unrelenting nature combined with his elegance on the ball are unique qualities for a midfielder in India and he’s a big part of our plans for next season,” Coyle remarked.

Since joining Chennaiyin FC, Jiteshwor has made a notable impact, featuring in a total of 44 matches across all competitions. His consistency and skill were particularly evident in the last season, where he played 23 matches, contributing both defensively and offensively to the team’s efforts.

Reflecting on his contract extension, Jiteshwor expressed his excitement and gratitude. “It’s exciting to stay at Chennaiyin FC. This club is the perfect environment for me to grow and learn from some of the best coaches and players,” he stated. Jiteshwor’s commitment to the club highlights his desire to continue his development in a supportive and competitive environment.

Jiteshwor’s journey with Chennaiyin FC has been marked by significant achievements. Apart from his club commitments, he has also been an integral part of the Indian national team setup, having participated in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualification last year. His performances at both the domestic and international levels have showcased his potential and versatility as a midfielder.

Jiteshwor’s contract extension also aligns with Chennaiyin FC’s strategy of nurturing young talent and building a squad capable of competing at the highest levels. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, retaining a player of Jiteshwor’s caliber is a significant boost to their aspirations.

Chennaiyin FC’s decision to secure Jiteshwor until 2025 reflects their commitment to building a strong, cohesive unit. With his defensive skills, ball control, and ability to read the game, Jiteshwor is set to play a crucial role in the club’s future endeavors. Fans and teammates alike will be looking forward to more stellar performances from the talented midfielder as he continues to grow and make his mark in Indian football.
