Chennaiyin FC Overpowers Jamshedpur FC 5-1 in ISL Showdown

Chennaiyin FC defeated Jamshedpur FC 5-1 in their 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) clash on Monday at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. The visiting side, led by a clinical and relentless attack, delivered a commanding performance that left the home team struggling to keep up.

With goals from Irfan Yadwad, Connor Shields, Wilmar Jordan Gil, and Lukas Brambilla, the Marina Machans secured their third win of the season, cementing a strong early-season position.

From the outset, Chennaiyin seized control, capitalizing on Jamshedpur’s defensive errors and using the flanks effectively to pressure the hosts. The scoring opened in the sixth minute when Vincy Barretto sent a sharp cross into the box.

A miscommunication between Jamshedpur’s goalkeeper Albino Gomes and defender Pratik Chaudhuri led to Chaudhuri accidentally toe-poking the ball into his own net, gifting Chennaiyin an early lead.

Chennaiyin’s aggressive play only intensified as Yadwad doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with a remarkable individual effort. Picking up the ball near midfield, he outmaneuvered several defenders with an impressive turn, sprinted down the field, and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

Just two minutes later, the visitors extended their lead further, with Shields scoring his first goal of the season after a quick one-two with Yadwad, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike that left Jamshedpur’s defense in tatters.

Throughout the second half, Chennaiyin maintained their offensive momentum. In the 54th minute, Yadwad intercepted the ball from Pratik Chaudhuri and quickly found Wilmar Jordan Gil in space. The Colombian forward held his composure, evading Albino Gomes and easily tapping in Chennaiyin’s fourth goal of the night.

Chennaiyin coach Owen Coyle made further strategic changes, bringing on Daniel Chima Chukwu, Lukas Brambilla, and Gurkirat Singh to bolster their frontline. In the 71st minute, substitute Brambilla found space after a precise pass from Lalrinliana Hnamte, curling a brilliant shot past Albino to extend the lead to 5-0.

Jamshedpur FC managed to salvage some pride in the 81st minute, capitalizing on a penalty after Yadwad handled the ball in the box. Javi Hernandez converted the spot-kick to provide the home team with a consolation goal, although it was far from enough to shift the game’s outcome.

With this win, Chennaiyin FC demonstrated their offensive strength and tactical organization, positioning themselves as a force to reckon with in this season’s ISL. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur will be looking for answers to regain form after a humbling loss on home ground.
