India Super League side, Chennaiyin, have announced the signing of Slovakian forward Jakub Sylvestr from Hapoel Haifa.
The Two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC lost in the India Super League’s finals playoffs to ATK last season.
However, they will want to contend and try to win a third title this season, and the team has reinforced their attack with the 31-year-old who joins the team on a free transfer.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the club via a press release. The player is the first Slovak to play in the India Super League, and like every player who is making the first foray into the ISL, the excitement is there to discover a new adventure.
“This is quite a new adventure for me” new continent, new family, new way of life living in the bubble and playing football. I am really looking forward to being with the team in Goa very soon. I will put my best foot forward to help the team succeed”. Jakub said
CFC head coach Csaba László stated that Jakub would add more depth to the team’s attack, especially with his goalscoring form over the past couple of years.
Jakub is Chennaiyin FC’s seventh and final overseas player for the 2020-21 campaign. He has played for Slovan Bratislava, winning the Slovakian League and Cup titles.
He also played for Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, winning both the League and Cup. He featured for the German second division side, Erzgebirge Aue. He had stints at FC Nuremberg and SC Paderborn in Germany before a brief stay at Aalborg BK in Denmark.
He played in Israel for two and a half years and four clubs, making 49 appearances and scoring 20 goals. He also played for The Slovakian national team with his debut in 2010.
