David Raya Reaches 100 Arsenal Appearances and Steps Into Legendary Company

David Raya’s journey at Arsenal has been anything but ordinary. When he arrived from Brentford, few imagined he would become a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s project, let alone reach a milestone that places him alongside the greats of the club’s history. Now, with 100 appearances in the red and white and 41 clean sheets to his name, Raya has carved out a reputation that demands respect.

When Raya first walked through the doors at London Colney, the mood around the deal was mixed at best. Aaron Ramsdale had been popular among supporters, both for his character and his performances, and the idea of replacing him with another goalkeeper struck many as unnecessary risk. Arteta, however, was adamant that the Spaniard could offer qualities that fit the team’s evolving style of play.

Fast forward to today, and that gamble looks inspired. In just 100 appearances, Raya has shut out opponents 41 times—a ratio that stands shoulder to shoulder with the numbers posted by Arsenal’s most revered goal keepers. His sharp reflexes and calm distribution have turned him into a trusted figure in a squad that has grown more ambitious season by season.

Still, there is an asterisk that hovers over Raya’s early claim to legendary status. While David Seaman, Jens Lehmann, and Bob Wilson left indelible marks not just through consistency but also by lifting trophies with Arsenal, Raya has yet to match them in that department. For some fans, that distinction is critical. For others, the clean sheet record alone shows he belongs in the conversation.

Seaman anchored Arsenal during the club’s most dominant spells in the 1990s. Lehmann was part of the Invincibles, providing stability during a season that remains unmatched in Premier League history. Wilson stood tall in the late 1960s and early 1970s, helping Arsenal to a historic league and cup double. Each of them blended reliability with silverware, which is why their names are etched into the club’s folklore.

Raya now finds himself measured against those standards. On pure statistics, his impact is undeniable. Keeping more than four clean sheets in every ten games is elite by any metric. Yet football’s memory is shaped as much by moments of triumph as by numbers. For Raya to join the pantheon without debate, Arsenal will need to turn strong campaigns into tangible success.
