Mohun Bagan Super Giants defender Dippendu Biswas shared his delight after they won the double of the League Shield and ISL Cup. The Mariners defeated Bengaluru FC by 2-1 in Kolkata in the summit clash.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Biswas scored two goals and provided one assist for the Kolkata-based club in the 14 matches he played in the season. The youngster lifted his performance in the recently concluded season and came up with a consistent show.
In the last season, MBSG had suffered a loss against Mumbai City FC in the final.
Biswas said in an interview with Indiansuperleague.com, “It’s an amazing feeling. It’s a dream for everyone. Last year, we were the runners-up in the ISL Cup final. This season we are the champions. I’m very happy. My parents are there also, so it’s nice.”
Biswas opened up on the difficult phase during Covid-19 and said he even contemplated quitting football at one stage.
“During Covid, I thought to myself, ‘Nothing can happen now. Maybe I should leave football.’ It was just a thought. I didn’t think of leaving entirely but that desire to play was still there. I want to do something moving forward, that was the motivation,” he expressed.
The young lad said that his parents always supported his football career.
“When I started playing football, my parents always supported me,” he recalled.
“They never scolded me or prevented me from playing. They always motivate me to play better in every game,” he continued.
Biswas said he is a Mohun Bagan’s fan first and then a player.
“I’m an MBSG supporter first, and then I’m an MBSG player,” he said.
“It’s feeling really good that we are the ISL Cup champions. It’s a top moment,” he concluded.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will next face Kerala Blasters in the Super Cup at the Kalinga Stadium on Saturday.
