East Bengal FC have mutually parted ways with Moroccan forward Hamid Ahadad, the Indian Super League club confirmed on Monday, bringing an early end to the attacker’s short stint with the Red and Gold Brigade.
In an official statement shared on social media, the club said the decision was taken after the player conveyed his wish to spend time with his family. “The decision comes after Hamid expressed his desire to be with his family during this period. As a club that values the well-being of its players beyond the pitch, we have decided to honour his wishes,” the statement read. East Bengal also confirmed that efforts are already underway to secure a replacement, adding, “The club has already started working towards finding a suitable replacement.”
Hamid joined East Bengal in July last year with expectations of strengthening the club’s attacking options. During his time in Kolkata, the Moroccan featured in seven matches across the AIFF Super Cup and the Durand Cup, scoring two goals. While his appearances were limited, he managed to make an impact in cup competitions before his departure was confirmed.
His exit makes him the latest foreign player to leave the league in recent months. Several overseas players have already moved on, including Adrian Luna, Noah Sadoui, and Borja Herrera, highlighting a growing trend of uncertainty surrounding foreign recruitment and retention.
Hamid’s departure also comes at a time when the future of the Indian Super League remains unclear. With 2026 already underway, there is still no official confirmation regarding the commencement of the next ISL season. Traditionally, the league would have kicked off in September, but the campaign is yet to begin due to the absence of a confirmed commercial partner.
This prolonged delay has raised concerns among clubs, players, and supporters alike, with teams struggling to plan squads and logistics in the absence of clarity. East Bengal’s decision to move on from Hamid reflects both a personal consideration for the player and the broader challenges currently facing Indian football.
As the club looks ahead to rebuilding its squad, attention will also remain on developments off the field, as stakeholders await decisive news on the league’s future and the roadmap for the upcoming season.
