East Bengal FC has successfully signed Spanish defender Hector Yuste for the 2024-25 season, bolstering their squad with a player who brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality. The signing marks East Bengal’s sixth foreign addition to the team this season, highlighting their ambition to compete at the highest levels of Indian football.
Hector Yuste comes to East Bengal FC after a successful stint in Indian football, where he was instrumental in leading his team to victory in the Durand Cup and the Indian Super League Shield last season.
Yuste’s impressive track record includes eight clean sheets, 34 interceptions, 17 blocks, 86 clearances, 18 successful tackles, and 101 successful duels. Additionally, he contributed offensively with a goal and an assist in the ISL.
Born in Cartagena, Spain, Yuste’s football journey began in the youth systems of Fuente Alamo, Murcia, and Cartagena. He made his senior debut with Cartagena in 2007 and has since built an illustrious career across European and Asian competitions. His ability to perform consistently at a high level, with over 3,000 minutes played each season, makes him a valuable addition to any team.
East Bengal FC Head Coach Carles Cuadrat expressed confidence in Yuste’s ability to enhance the team’s defensive strength. “Hector will help us greatly with his experience of playing in top European and Asian competitions. His ability to handle the pressure and demands of big games and finals makes him a valuable asset,” Cuadrat stated.
“Hector has been part of many champion teams during his long career. His experience of playing in India in the previous season will help him adapt faster to the conditions,” he added.
With his experience in both European and Indian football, Yuste is expected to seamlessly integrate into the team and contribute to their defensive stability. His leadership qualities and understanding of the game make him an ideal candidate to mentor younger players and fortify East Bengal’s backline.
Yuste himself expressed enthusiasm about joining East Bengal FC, mentioning the club’s history and passionate fan base as key factors in his decision.
“I am very happy to be part of the Emami East Bengal family. The enthusiasm and ambition shown by the club are the main reasons why I have decided to return to Kolkata,” Yuste said. “It’s a special feeling to represent a historic club that has so many passionate and energetic supporters. I hope we can achieve our desired goals and experience many moments of glory together. Joy East Bengal!”
Yuste’s commitment to the club reflects his desire to contribute significantly to East Bengal’s success. His previous experience in India gives him a unique advantage, allowing him to adapt quickly to the league’s demands and make an immediate impact.
With Yuste’s signing, East Bengal FC aims to strengthen its squad and compete effectively in the upcoming season. The club’s management has shown a clear intent to build a team capable of challenging for titles, as evidenced by their strategic foreign signings. Yuste’s addition is expected to enhance the team’s defensive capabilities, providing a solid foundation for their campaign.
