East Bengal have completed the signing of India international Edmund Lalrindika, who returns to the club on a three-year contract, donning the iconic No. 10 shirt. The move marks a homecoming for the 26-year-old forward, who previously played for the Red and Gold Brigade on loan in the 2019-20 season.
Back then, his promising debut in the high-stakes Kolkata derby against Mohun Bagan was marred by injury. Reflecting on that moment, Edmund said, “I’ve always dreamed of returning to East Bengal. I sustained an injury on my debut during my first stint. It couldn’t get more unfortunate because it happened during a derby at the VYBK. Now that I am back, I believe I have some unfinished business here.”
The Mizoram-born attacker, known for his versatility across the front line, joins East Bengal after a strong season with Inter Kashi, where he played 1,846 minutes in the 2024-25 I-League campaign, recording four goals and six assists in 24 matches. Over the past two I-League seasons, he has been one of the most consistent performers with a total of eight goals and 13 assists.
Edmund takes over the prestigious No. 10 jersey from former captain Cleiton Silva, who departed the club last season following a reported fallout with head coach Oscar Bruzon. “Edmund is just fresh from an outstanding season with Inter Kashi, even earning well-deserved national team call-ups. We’ve been tracking his performances very closely,” Bruzon commented. “I am happy because we’ve secured a player who is growing in stature and can truly make a difference in diverse attacking situations.”
Having represented India at every age-group level and making his senior debut against Kuwait in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier on June 6, 2024, Edmund brings valuable experience and national pedigree to East Bengal’s squad. A product of the AIFF Elite Academy, his club career includes a five-year stint at Bengaluru FC before making his mark at Inter Kashi.
Thangboi Singto, Head of Football at East Bengal, expressed optimism about the signing: “Edmund’s return is a massive boost for us. His proven track record, versatility and familiarity with East Bengal’s ethos and passionate fan base make him an exciting addition. We believe he will play a pivotal role in our ambition to chase and win major titles.”
As East Bengal look to rebuild and contend for silverware, Edmund’s return could be the spark that reignites their charge.
