East Bengal began its AFC Champions League Two 2026-27 campaign with a 2-2 draw against Jordanian side Al Hussein after surrendering a two-goal advantage at the Amman International Stadium on Wednesday.

The Red and Gold Brigade made an impressive start away from home and needed just nine minutes to open the scoring. Edmund Lalrindika tested the Al Hussein goalkeeper with a shot, and the resulting save fell perfectly into the path of Dani Ramirez. The Spaniard reacted quickly and tapped the ball home from close range to hand East Bengal an early advantage.

East Bengal continued to threaten and doubled its lead five minutes before the half-time break.

Ramirez was again involved, this time delivering a corner into the penalty area. Anwar Ali climbed above the defenders and produced a powerful header that found the back of the net, putting East Bengal 2-0 ahead and in a commanding position going into the interval.

However, Al Hussein responded strongly after the restart and began putting the visitors under increasing pressure.

Captain Mahmoud Al Mardi gave the Jordanian club a route back into the contest with a curling finish from inside the penalty area, cutting East Bengal’s lead to one.

The home side maintained its attacking momentum as it searched for an equaliser, while East Bengal attempted to protect its narrow advantage during the closing stages.

Al Hussein’s pressure eventually paid off with only three minutes of regulation time remaining.

Substitute Obeida Al Namarneh delivered a well-weighted cross towards the far post, where fellow substitute Ahmad Assaf was waiting. Assaf converted the opportunity, beating Prabsukhan Giil to make it 2-2 and deny East Bengal an opening victory.

The late goal completed Al Hussein’s comeback after East Bengal had controlled the scoreboard for much of the contest.

Despite missing out on all three points after establishing a two-goal cushion, East Bengal opened its AFC Champions League Two campaign with a point from a challenging away fixture in Amman.
