Chiellini gives gratitude to Doctors and Medical workers after EURO triumph

Euro 2020 was supposed to be played last year. But the covid pandemic shook the world badly. When the crisis first began in March 2020, Italy was among the worst affected countries, witnessing thousands of cases every day. The entire medical infrastructure of the country was pushed against the wall.

Yet the relentless determination of the Nation refused to give up. Not only Italy got back on its feet, the story of struggle against the pandemic became an inspiration in itself. Italy won their first major trophy since beating France in the final of FIFA World Cup at Olympiastadion at Berlin 5-3 on penalties in 2006.

This time they were up against the power packed England team which was also claiming the title, moreover since they beat one of the title contenders, Germany, in the round of 16. Yet the experience of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonnuci proved the real game changer as Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties to claim their second EURO title.

Italian captain Giorgio Chiellini thanked and dedicated the triumph to all the medical staff of the country. “The pain of those who suffered, the fatigue of those who were brought to their knees by the pandemic. The desire to return to life. The faces of women, men, old people, young people, children and those who saved our lives: the doctors. You pushed us, you helped us, you sang with us”, the 36-year-old wrote.

Italy was shaken badly by the earlier days of Covid pandemic. But the determination of all its people and selfless dedication to each other brought Italy out of the crisis. The Juventus defender  dedicated every bit of success of the EURO triumph to its people. “The result is only a part of the game but this result, this victory, these tears of joy are dedicated to you. We wrote the story! Forza Azzurri”, further adds Chiellini.

With winning the trophy, Italy has once again proved why they are always one of the most successful teams in the game of Football whose players from any generation have graced the pitch by their artistic brilliance. Be it Alessandro Altobelli in 1982 or Andrea Pirlo in 2006, many have risen to the occasion to take their nation to glory.
