Pedri has gone on record to say that he will shave his head if Spain lift their 4th European Championship trophy at Wembley in a few days’ time. Spain have proven their critics wrong after a stuttering start and reached the semi-final stage of the tournament.
They are now two wins away from being the first ever side to win the trophy 4 times.
The Barcelona midfielder has been a regular fixture in Luis Enrique team, despite many senior members being left out constantly. He has kept the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Rodri out of the team which is an achievement in itself.
Not a lot was thought of Pedri before the tournament by non-La Liga fans as the quality produced by La Masia has certainly deteriorated. However, Pedri has shown time and again during the last one month or so that he has serious potential and can turn out to be a top-class player.
After scoring 5 goals each in their last group game and the round of 16 clash against Slovakia and Croatia respectively, La Roja found it extremely hard to break down the 10-men Swiss side.
The game ended 1-1 and went to a penalty shoot-out in which Unai Simon became a hero by saving a couple of attempts to take his side to the semi-finals. Pedri spoke after the game about his celebration plans if Spain were to win the Euros.
“I’m a little tired, but at 18 I have the strength for much more,” he said. “All the teams are good. Everyone can eliminate everyone and it will be a great game.
“It is a dream to be able to wear the Barça and Spain shirt. I hope I can enjoy it [the semi-final]. If we win the European Championship, I will shave my head.”
Spain will face their biggest test so far in the form of Italy. Gli Azzurri knocked out World #1 Belgium in the round of 16 and have remained unbeaten in all competitions since September 2018.
