Everton Agree Loan Deal to Bring Jack Grealish Back From Manchester City

    September 7, 2026

Everton have reached an agreement with Manchester City to bring Jack Grealish back to the club on loan, with the England international set for a second consecutive spell on Merseyside.

Manchester City have given Grealish permission to undergo his medical after approving the loan, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer is expected to be completed and announced on Deadline Day. Grealish had received several proposals but made a return to Everton his preferred option.

The agreement represents another opportunity for the 30-year-old to secure regular Premier League football after returning to Manchester City following his 2025-26 loan spell at Everton.

Grealish Chose Everton After Receiving Several Proposals

Grealish’s future had become one of the major questions heading into the final days of the summer transfer window.

Sunderland submitted a loan proposal, while Aston Villa were also linked with bringing their former captain back to Villa Park. However, Grealish had been holding out for another opportunity with Everton.

Manchester City were open to allowing him to leave before the deadline. Grealish is entering the final year of his contract, and his prospects of becoming a regular starter under Enzo Maresca remained uncertain despite featuring briefly for City during the opening weeks of the season.

Everton maintained contact with Grealish after his previous loan ended, leaving the possibility of another agreement open throughout the summer.

His familiarity with David Moyes and Everton’s system also provides continuity after a first spell that showed signs of reviving his career before injury intervened.

Injury Cut Short Grealish’s First Everton Loan

Grealish initially joined Everton from Manchester City on loan for the 2025-26 season.

The move gave him the regular playing time and attacking freedom that had become increasingly difficult to find at the Etihad Stadium.

He made an immediate impact and earned the Premier League Player of the Month award early in the season, demonstrating the creativity and ball-carrying ability that made him one of England’s most influential attacking players earlier in his career.

Grealish primarily operated from the left under Moyes, where he was given greater freedom to carry the ball, drift into central areas and create opportunities for teammates.

However, his season was disrupted when he suffered a serious foot injury in January. The problem required surgery and ultimately ended his campaign prematurely.

Grealish finished his first Everton spell with two goals and six assists in 22 appearances.

Everton had an option to purchase him permanently for approximately £50 million, but the club decided not to activate it.

Everton Give Grealish Another Opportunity to Rediscover His Best Form

The new agreement gives Grealish the opportunity to continue the progress he made before his injury while returning to an environment in which he already knows the manager, teammates and tactical expectations.

Everton have been active in reshaping Moyes’ squad this summer, adding players including Brennan Johnson, Christian Nørgaard, Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George.

Grealish provides another experienced creative option capable of playing from the left or moving inside to influence possession around the penalty area.

For Manchester City, another loan removes a player who was unlikely to receive consistent minutes under Maresca while allowing Grealish to play regularly during the final year of his current contract.

For Everton, it is a reunion with a player whose first spell showed considerable promise before being stopped by injury.

Grealish wanted another opportunity at Everton. With Manchester City giving the green light for his medical, he is set to get it.
