Experienced goalkeeper Karanjit Singh extends contract with Kerala Blasters

Last season’s finalist Kerala Blasters are gradually building a formidable unit for themselves ahead of the new Indian Super League season. So recently they extended the contract of the most experienced custodian Karanjit Singh with the hope of guiding Prabhsukhan Singh Gill in the right direction and even if he is needed as a goalkeeper he can deliver in a couple of matches.

The Blasters signed him up as a replacement for the injured Albino Gomes last year and now cool and calm demeanour has highligh influenced the team last season in their journey to the finals and will carry on to do as he sticks with the Kerala outfit for at least another year.

Currently at 36, Karanjit Singh has the mindset of fighting for his place in the ISL but honestly that won’t be justice to Prabhsukhan Gill’s talent. The youngster is currently groomed by the veteran who has played and won several ISL titles and have represented India 17 times.

The Punjab born goalkeeper started his career at JCT and spent his first six seasons with the side from his state before moving out. He joined Salgaocar in Goa back in 2010-11 and won the I-League title with them before moving to Indian Super League. In the ISL he was drafted by Chennaiyin FC in 2015 and featured for them till 2019 season. He bagged two ISL title during this time and was considered as of the most reliable goalkeepers in the country.

Karanjit Singh joined Kerala Blasters in January last season and stayed with them as they reached the finals. So he will be hoping to play a part in the upcoming season and help the Blasters get their maiden ISL title.

After putting pen to paper on the extension, Karanjit Singh said, “I’m delighted to continue with Kerala Blasters. I hope to impart the knowledge I have earned through my experience to my teammates. I also look forward to getting on the field and helping the team win the cup this year, especially for the enthusiastic fans who encourage us in every step of the way.”

“Karanjit is a record holder participant among the ISL players. His professionalism and attitude is obviously why he has been successful during his long career. He is a great example to young players and that is why we need this kind of professionals in our team.” Says Karolis Skinkys, Sporting Director, KBFC.

After extending contracts with Bijoy Varghese, Jeakson Singh, Marco Leskovic and Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Karanjit Singh becomes the fifth player from last season to be retained ahead of the upcoming campaign. .
