Former Jamshedpur FC’s ISL Shield Winning coach Owen Coyle joins Scottish club Queen’s Park to stay near his family

Indian Super League’s Shield winning manager Owen Coyle has parted ways from Jamshedpur FC to join Scottish outfit Queen’s Park FC for the upcoming season. The Scottish manager was the centre of a fairytale season as he guided the Men of Steel to the top of the league finish in the current season.

Coyle after a long and tedious season in the bio bubble wanted some break as he wanted to stay near his family. Hence he decided to move back to his native Scotland and became the head coach for Queen’s Park FC. Coyle’s move to his hometown is no surprise as the Scottish side has already announced the arrival of the former Burnley manager as their new head coach.

In an official statement on their website, the Scottish side stated, “The hugely experienced Head Coach has managed teams in Scotland, England, the USA and most recently in the Indian Super League. For the past two seasons he has managed Jamshedpur, leading them this season to their first honour, the Indian Super League Shield. He will take up the Head Coach role at a club currently sitting in the play-off positions and challenging to get into the SPFL Championship next season.”

Queen’s Park FC is a Glasgow based club that ply their trade in Scottish League One, the third tier league of the Scottish football pyramid. Founded in 1867, they are the oldest association football club in Scotland. The club is filled with a lot of heritage with third highest trophies in Scottish football, only behind Celtic and Rangers.

Owen Coyle has been a metronome in the Indian Super League as he guided Chennaiyin FC from the last position to the finals in his first season. He then joined Jamshedpur FC and after a stretch of two seasons, he finally managed to take them through to the playoffs for the first time. The Men of Steel finish at the summit at the end of the league season.

Regarding Coyle’s appointment, club Chief Executive, Leeann Dempster said: “First of all, we’d like to thank Jamshedpur for the generous way they have behaved throughout our talks. With their agreement, and although he doesn’t officially start till June 1, Owen will be able to help us prepare our teams for the final few games of the season.”

Dempster added how it is great thing for the club to have someone of his expertise and experience as he is someone who has grown in and around the Scottish style of football and understands what it means to the club.

“We are excited to have secured a Head Coach of Owen’s experience and expertise. He has grown up in the Scottish game, as both player and coach. But has also added considerable international experience and brings all that wealth of knowledge to our club as we continue our journey to building a unique club that makes fans proud on and off the pitch,” Dempster added.

Lastly, Owen Coyle was also very happy joining the club as he gets to remain close to his family, something that he wanted while taking up the new project. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at a wonderful club in the Indian Super League. But it was time for me to come home and I am delighted to be joining an ambitious, progressive club in Queen’s Park,” Coyle shared.
