Gary Lineker Hints at Mo Salah’s Liverpool Future After Revealing Key Clues

Liverpool fans have been holding their breath over Mohamed Salah’s contract situation, but if Gary Lineker’s instincts are correct, there’s little to worry about. The former England striker believes Salah is on the verge of committing his future to Anfield—based on subtle but telling clues from a recent conversation with the Egyptian star.

With Salah’s current deal set to expire in the summer, speculation about a potential move to Saudi Arabia has been swirling. The Liverpool forward has remained cryptic about his next move, fueling uncertainty among fans. However, Lineker, who recently visited Liverpool’s training ground, picked up on something that makes him confident that Salah is staying put.

“I’ve got a feeling he will [sign a new contract],” Lineker shared on The Rest is Football podcast. His reasoning? The lack of noise surrounding the situation. If Salah was preparing to leave, Lineker argues, there would likely be more buzz, more leaks, and more urgency in the media. But instead, things have been eerily quiet—almost too quiet.

His co-host, Alan Shearer, agreed, saying he would be “absolutely amazed” if Liverpool doesn’t secure Salah for a few more seasons.

While many footballers keep contract discussions strictly business, Salah’s approach has been a bit different. When Lineker met him at Liverpool’s training ground, the Egyptian forward gave a glimpse of his thought process in the most unexpected way—through a joke.

During their conversation, Salah casually asked Lineker about his own playing career and when he decided to retire. When Lineker explained that he had moved to Japan for a final stint, Salah playfully responded, “Ah, you went for the money, did you?” Then, with a wink to a press official nearby, he added, “Yeah, I might do the same.”

At first glance, that remark might seem like an admission that he’s considering a big-money move abroad. But for Lineker, it was the way Salah said it—with humor and a knowing wink—that stood out. It didn’t feel like a player preparing to say goodbye; rather, it felt like someone enjoying the speculation while keeping his true intentions close to his chest.

Liverpool fans will be familiar with Salah’s lighthearted nature, but it’s this very attitude that suggests he’s comfortable, settled, and perhaps not looking to force an exit.
