“Goalscoring comes naturally to him,” Sunil Chhetri is full of praise about Bengaluru FC new signing Roy Krishna

Bengaluru FC have been very active in the transfer market heading onto a new season. They grabbed the headlines with the signing of Roy Krishna. The Fijian striker will surely bolster the attack as he will add another dimension to the Bengaluru FC forwardline. The club then also moved ahead and snapped up Sandesh Jhingan to strengthen the backline.

Delighted with the signing, skipper Sunil Chhetri feels that this can be a massive turnaround for the Blues with players like Roy Krishna, Sandesh Jhingan, Javi Hernandez all joining in this transfer window. “The last two years have hurt. But with guys like Roy, Javi and Sandesh coming in, we have got everything that we wanted. We can’t complain anymore,” Chhetri shared in a a media interaction ahead of the Durand Cup campaign.

It will be interesting to see how Roy Krishna combines with Sunil Chhetri in attack as they both like to lead from the front and take initiative by dropping down in midfield to create an overload. But now their combination will be very exciting to see and it is something that the Bengaluru FC fans are also waiting for in this new season.

Roy Krishna who won the Golden Boot award in 2020-21 campaign for ATK Mohun Bagan is highly respected by everyone at Bengaluru. Especially Chhetri feels that it is a privilege to have someone of Krishna’s level join the team. “In the last three or four years, Roy has been the best number nine alongside Coro (Ferran Corominas of FC Goa). All of us players have to do everything to make him comfortable. If Roy is made comfortable, we know what he can produce. Goal scoring comes naturally to him,” he added.

The team never looked like challenging for the titles under the reign of Marco Pezzaiouli and Chhetri revealed how the team were not on sync with the coach and it created an unrest in the dressing room which reflected on the pitch. “We weren’t in sync. We have to know what the coach wants, so that we can move in that direction. That’s the best way to get results. We missed out on this last year. But it’s not just the mistake of one person. The performances we gave as individuals – the way I missed goals, the way we defended – did not help,” the BFC skipper shared. “As a team, what hurt was that we started missing that camaraderie inside the dressing room. This was never the case at this club. It really bothered me.”

It is good to see that Bengaluru FC are looking a lot better under new head coach Simon Grayson and it will be interesting to see how the new coach uses his resources at hand as they prepare for the upcoming season.
