Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre feels Urugyuan defender Manuel Ugarte can help the Red Devils turn the tables in the ongoing Premier League season.
Earlier, Man United signed the services of Manuel Ugarte from PSG in a potential €60M deal. Uruguay international Ugarte signed a five-year deal with the option to extend for a further year.
Ugarte has played three matches for United in the ongoing season, out of which Erik Ten Hag’s team has won two and lost one.
Silvestre said of his compatriot on Tribal Football, “I think Ugarte is a great signing. He probably cost United more than he should have, but that happens in football. Manuel needs a strong partner next to him for him to perform to the best of his ability, and he’ll need consistent game time. The [0-0] game against Aston Villa would have suited him perfectly because it was compact and that’s the type of game he thrives in. He loves to battle.”
The former defender feels Ugarte will not allow the opposition players to run through their midfield.
”Manchester United lack structure and compactness… they let players walk through their midfield or break the lines too easily. Manuel will be able to help stop that problem, but he won’t be able to solve all the problems by himself. However, I predict him to be a great asset for United.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United have got off to a torrid start in the new season. They have won two matches, drawn two, and lost three matches in the Premier League and thus find themselves struggling at 14th place.
The Red Devils will resume their season against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday after the International break.
