Indian Super League champions Hyderabad FC have announced the extension of Australian winger Joel Chianese. The flashy winger is set to arrive for the Nizams for a third continuous season and was an integral part of Manolo Marquez’s team that went on to become the champions last season.
The 32-year-old was delighted to put pen to paper as he aims to replicate the success achieved by the Nizams in the upcoming season. “I am very excited to be a part of the HFC family for another season. We’ve tasted success and now it’s an exciting challenge to see if we can reproduce that again.”
Joel Chianese joined Hyderabad FC in 2020 and has been a very crucial player for the Nizams under the tutelage of Spanish tactician Manolo Marquez who literally changed the course of the South Indian club. Over the last two seasons, Chianese has been one of the loyal warriors for Marquez and the fact that the Australian winger decided to take up more of a squad role shows the respect he has for the Spaniard.
The Australian winger shares how Manolo Marquez is an expert in managing his players and also gets out the best from his players and that makes the Spaniard very special. “I think Manolo has a way of getting the best out of the Indian players but also managing the foreign group very well. He’s very approachable and that goes a long way to creating a good relationship,” Chianese shared.
The Australian last shared the excitement to play in front of Hyderabad FC fans as this the ISL will be back to its original format after a couple of seasons in the bio bubble due to COVID-19. So Chianese is very delighted to continue at the club as he will finally be able to play in Hyderabad and experience the fan culture in the city. “We really can’t wait to play in front of you all at our home stadium. We have felt the support from afar the last 2 seasons held in the bio-bubble and now it’s time to be loud,” he concluded.
Joel Chianese has featured 31 times for the Nizams and has scored seven goals along with four assists and has been a menace for opposition defenses for the last couple of years. He had some great partnerships with Aridane Santana and last year with Bartholomew Ogbeche. Both Marquez and the fans will want him to bring his best game to the ISL next season.
