As Indian football clubs begin preparations for the upcoming 2025-26 season, Hyderabad FC have taken a proactive step in strengthening their backline. The Indian Super League (ISL) outfit has secured the signing of seasoned defender Lamgoulen Hangshing from Churchill Brothers, marking their first domestic acquisition of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old right-back, popularly known as Gogou, has agreed to a one-year deal with Hyderabad FC. The contract also includes an option for a one-year extension, contingent on his performances in the forthcoming season.
Gogou’s signing is a significant coup for the Nizams, considering the competition for his signature. According to sources, three other ISL clubs were also keen on adding the versatile defender to their ranks.
Having spent the past six years with Churchill Brothers, Gogou brings a wealth of experience to the ISL. He joined the Goan side in 2018 after beginning his professional journey with Bengaluru FC’s B team. Over his tenure with Churchill Brothers, he amassed over 100 appearances and emerged as a leader on and off the pitch, even donning the captain’s armband.
In the 2024-25 I-League season, Gogou made 21 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting once. His defensive contributions were equally notable, with three clean sheets to his name. His discipline and composure were exemplified by the mere two yellow cards he received throughout the campaign, underscoring his professionalism.
Not limited to just the right-back position, Gogou has proven his utility across the backline and in midfield when required. This versatility will be a valuable asset for Hyderabad FC as they look to rebuild and compete strongly in the next ISL season.
For Gogou, the move represents a new chapter and a bigger stage. The upcoming campaign will be his first in the Indian Super League, and expectations are high. With consistent performances, the defender could even draw the attention of national selectors.
As Hyderabad FC embarks on a fresh journey under a new-look squad, the arrival of an experienced and disciplined leader like Lamgoulen Hangshing could be the steadying influence they need.
