“I don’t look back, I only look forward,” says Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag when asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure

Manchester United have moved forward from the Cristiano Ronaldo saga as manager Erik ten Hag believes that the club must look forward and not dwindle in the past. The Portuguese forward is now a thing of the past as the Red Devils resumed their Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest with a dominant 3-0 win. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred all scored for the hosts in front of a packed Old Trafford.

It is weird how time changes so quickly as Ronaldo before the World Cup was not getting regular gametime under Ten Hag. He mostly used him as a substitute and that was not nicely taken by the Portuguese icon. However a season earlier Ronaldo was in form and was on a scoring spree for the club and in a season things have clearly fallen off the roof and Ronaldo has left the club following his statements against the club officials and Ten Hag in his interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo was a shadow of his former self as he scored 24 goals in 38 games for the Red Devils last season and was one of their pivotal players. But this season things have changed completely for the five time Ballon d’Or.

Ten Hag was recently asked about Ronaldo’s exit from the club as the Dutchman clearly said that the focus is on the resumption of the league. “The focus is on the resumption of the league. I only see a hungry team.”

When asked if Ronaldo’s exit has disturbed the team chemistry or the dressing room, the Dutchman replied, “I don’t look back, I only look forward. He chose to say goodbye, he (Ronaldo) is no longer part of it.”

Ronaldo’s exit from Manchester United was very unceremonious as his contract was terminated after he made comments against the club officials and current and former managers. While he did not get much joy at the World Cup aswell as Portugal bowed out at the quarterfinals against Morocco as he was seen leaving the ground in tears.

However before leaving the club he had reacted regarding his exit. He said, “I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
