Kerala Blasters made a statement signing by landing Pritam Kotal in this summer transfer window.
Kotal was an influential figure at Mohun Bagan Super Giant as he led his team to the ISL trophy last season. He was their captain and therefore it was surprising to see MBSG letting Kotal go in an exchange deal which saw Sahal Abdul Samad go the other way.
In a recent interview session of ‘In the Stands’ hosted by Suyash Upadhyaya, Kotal cleared the air regarding his move to Kerala Blasters. He started by saying how it was such a difficult season and yet they managed to win the ISL trophy.
“Last season was difficult for us, but despite that, we (Mohun Bagan Super Giant) won the title. It was the first time that I won a trophy as a captain, and that too while wearing the Mohun Bagan Super Giant jersey. It was a big achievement for me,” Kotal stated.
However, with some changes in the dynamics, Kotal saw this opportunity and felt that he needed a change and also a new challenge and therefore he decided to join Kerala Blasters.
“I wanted to try new things, face new challenges, and experience a new atmosphere. And I’m feeling good being here. Let’s see what lies ahead of us!” he continued.
Coming from one hub of football in India to another, Kotal is excited to play in front of the Manjappada. He also reveals how difficult it was to play an away game in Kerala as an opponent team.
“Whenever we entered, the atmosphere on the ground created by the drums and chants was very difficult for the opposition to contend with. The biggest problem used to be communicating with other players; it was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. You’ve to shout to make yourself heard. Even when the coach tried to say something, we couldn’t hear anything,” he revealed.
However, he is excited now the experience something similar as he will be in yellow now. “But now, I’ll be playing here wearing the yellow jersey! I’m very excited about that. I can’t wait for the first time I get to do it.”
Kerala Blasters signed Kotal because of his winning mentality, vast experience and exceptional leadership skills. His positive mindset is another great factor that saw him lift three-ISL trophies. The Blasters are hoping that he would have that similar impact on their dressing room and turn this team into a title-winning outfit.
