The Indian men’s football team has slipped three places to 139th in FIFA’s live rankings following a disappointing run of results in recent international matches.
The decline comes after the Blue Tigers suffered three consecutive defeats, continuing a difficult period under head coach Khalid Jamil. India’s latest setback was a 1-3 loss to Tajikistan in the first of two scheduled international friendlies, further impacting the team’s standing in the global rankings.
India had enjoyed a rise in the previous FIFA rankings update released on April 1, moving up five spots to 136th position. That improvement was largely driven by a 2-1 victory over Hong Kong, China, in the team’s final AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifying fixture.
However, the momentum generated by that result has quickly faded. Since then, India has endured a challenging sequence of matches, beginning with a 0-2 defeat to Jamaica. The Blue Tigers followed that with a narrow 0-1 loss against Zimbabwe before falling to Tajikistan in their most recent outing.
The three-match losing streak has resulted in a drop in FIFA’s live rankings, highlighting the difficulties faced by the national side as it looks to build consistency ahead of future competitive assignments.
Despite the recent setbacks, India has an immediate opportunity to improve both its form and ranking outlook. The team is set to face Tajikistan once again on June 9 in the second international friendly between the two sides.
A positive result in that encounter could help halt the current slide and provide a timely boost to confidence within the squad. It would also offer Jamil and his players a chance to respond after a string of disappointing performances against international opposition.
With ranking points and morale at stake, the upcoming match assumes added significance for the Blue Tigers, who will be eager to reverse their fortunes and begin rebuilding momentum after a difficult run of results.
As India prepares for the second meeting with Tajikistan, attention will be focused on whether the national team can end its losing streak and prevent a further drop in the FIFA rankings.
