The eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League will be played in Goa from November 19. The tournament will be played in a bio secure bubble the city. The previous season of the tournament was also played in Goa and the matches were held in three stadiums – Fatorda Stadium, GMC Athletic Stadium and Tilak Maidan Stadium.
“We will once again use the same venues as last season,” All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das told Sportstar.
Meanwhile, there will be no Super Cup, which is played between ISL and I-League clubs as a pre-season tournament for the new season.
“The Super Cup can’t be held before in view of the current situation,” said Das and added that it will be ‘very difficult’ to schedule a pre-season tournament.
In fact, the last two seasons of Super Cup have been suspended due to scheduling issues and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, currently the ISL 2021-22 season is expected to be played behind closed doors as was the case in the previous edition.
On the other hand, Mumbai City had won their maiden ISL title by defeating ATK Mohun Bagan by 2-1 in the final of the tourney. Furthermore, Mumbai City had bagged the League Winners Shield as they had finished at the top of the points table after the league stage. The previous season was completed in five months.
11 teams will once again take on each other and will aim to go all the way in the competition. The schedule of the tournament will be released later by AIFF.
