ISL 2021-22: Bartholomew Ogbeche becomes the all-time leading goal-scorer in ISL history

Hyderabad FC striker Bartholomew Ogbeche has written his name in the Hero Indian Super League history books as he has become the all-time leading goal-scorer in the tournament. The Nigerian forward has now scored a total of 49 goals in the tourney in 70 matches he has played. Ferran Corominas and Sunil Chhetri have scored 48 goals each in the tournament.

The talisman scored a brace for Hyderabad FC in the team’s thumping 5-0 win over NorthEast United FC at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Monday.

Ogbeche opened his team’s account in the third minute of the game and then also scored in the 60th minute of the game as Hyderabad totally dominated the contest against NorthEast United. Thus, Hyderabad has strengthened its position at the top of the standings with a total of 26 points from 14 matches.

Ogbeche has been in sublime form in the ongoing season as he has scored 14 goals in the 13 matches he has played. Thus, he has played an instrumental role in the success of the club in ISL 2021-22.

Hyderabad FC head coach Manuel Marquez heaped praise on the Nigerian striker.

He said in the post-match press conference, “I didn’t know that he is scored one goal. Of course, four different teams in four different sessions, he scored goals every season. He’s a great player for our team. We are very happy that Ogbeche plays in our team. And he’s a top scorer now, as you say no, there are three players with the same number of goals. But we have to continue this form. Of course, this is only statistics but it’s very important. Now at this moment, Ferran Corominas is not here, but Sunil Chhetri and Ogbeche can score more goals, and let’s see how they finish”,

Ogbeche has been a top-scorer for NortHEast United FC, Kerala Blasters FC, and Hyderabad FC in the ISL. The talisman scored 12 goals in the 2018-19 season for NorthEast United FC. Subsequently, he scored 15 goals for Kerala Blasters in the next season and finished as the joint highest goal scorer in that edition.

The Nigerian then scored eight goals for Mumbai City FC in the previous season and played a key role in their maiden title triumph.
