ISL 2021-22: Disappointed to lose two points but the focus is on injuries – ATK Mohun Bagan’s Juan Ferrando

ATK Mohun Bagan’s head coach Juan Ferrando was disappointed to lose two points after his team played a 2-2 draw against Hyderabad FC at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda in the 50th match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League on Wednesday. The Mariners took lead on two occasions but Hyderabad FC was able to equalize on both times.

However, Ferrando is more worried regarding the injuries of players such as Deepak Tangri, Carl McHugh, Amrinder Singh. It is crucial for the Spaniard to manage the workload of his players as the league stage is about to enter the second phase.

Ferrando said in the post-match press conference, “Very disappointed on losing two points, but my focus is on the injuries of the (Deepak) Tangri, the injury of Carl (McHugh), the injury of Amrinder (Singh), those are the most important things now because sometimes it is more important to protect these players”.

On the other hand, the head coach also revealed that Roy Krishna is fit but he decided to play David Williams as his game was suited against Hyderabad FC. Williams created history as he scored in only 12 seconds to score the fastest goal in ISL history to help his team take the lead.

The Spaniard added, “No because we have plans, we prepared some plans. I think Williams is working so hard. But there’s no problem with Roy (Krishna). I’m very happy for Roy. It’s a respect and pleasure to work with him. But for today’s plan, it was perfect to use (David) Williams. And I think at the end of the day, the plan was good”.

Ferrando added that it is imperative for him to find the right balance in the attack and also manage the injuries of his strikers.

He added, “It is a necessity to find spaces, but, you know, Roy Krishna played like number 10 today, and Hugo (Boumous) like a false number nine. It is necessary to find the best positions in attack. Of course, it is not so easy because in our case, it increases the risk of injuries”.

Ferrando also put his weight behind Amrinder Singh, who hasn’t done a great job in front of the goal for the Mariners.

ATK Mohun Bagan gaffer concluded, “When players are going through problems it is necessary to support him, to work closely with him, to improve him, in those details and support him every day. This is the solution”.

ATK Mohun Bagan will next lock horns against Odisha FC on Saturday at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda.
