Bengaluru FC head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli admitted that his team missed a chance to bag three points against SC East Bengal at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim in the 49th match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League on Tuesday after the match ended in a 1-1 draw and the Blues had to share the spoils.
Pezzaiuoli feels his team dropped two clear points and he was highly disappointed with the team’s performance. In fact, Bengaluru FC dominated the possession with 66% but they could only take two shots on target.
On the other hand, SC East Bengal were able to keep the opposition at bay. SC East Bengal took the lead in the 28th minute when Semboi scored for them. In fact, Bengaluru FC were able to get a point after Sourav scored his own goal.
Marco Pezzaiuoli said in the post-match press conference, “Of course, we lost two points. We played against a team that was defending very deep and that’s usually difficult. And against a team like this it’s important to not concede an early goal but we conceded an early goal and it made it more difficult. But we came back again and in the second half we played well. We had a one-on-one chance but we didn’t score”.
In fact, the Blues had won their previous match against Chennaiyin FC by 4-2 but the team’s gaffer reckons his side didn’t have the rub of the green on their side against SC East Bengal.
He added, “I think we made one mistake on a set-piece and we scored just one goal in 90 minutes. Sometimes you need luck inside the box and we didn’t have that today to score one more goal more than the opponent”.
Pezzaiuoli is also not sure whether he will start with Sunil Chhetri in the upcoming matches. The talisman had a great opportunity to score in the second half against SC East Bengal but could not grab his chance.
The German concluded, “I don’t want to talk about Sunil. The team lost two points and Sunil is one of our players. He is an important player. It depends on the situation. Today I was thinking of starting him but then I had to take one of Cleiton Silva, Udanta Singh or Prince Ibara off and they had played well in the last match and that’s why I didn’t decide to change. I also wanted to use his energy from the bench like the last match. He had a great chance to score today in the second half”.
