ATK Mohun Bagan has signed the services of Australian defender Brendan Hamill ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League 2022-23, the club announced on their social media handle on Thursday.
The Australian commenced his football journey after playing in youth academies and lower division clubs Downunder. He made his professional debut for Melbourne Heart FC (now Melbourne City) in 2010.
He had a two-year stint at Melbourne City before moving to South Korea’s top division football K-league 1 team Seongnam FC in 2012. But he didn’t have a great time there as he could not produce the results.
“Hamill is a player who helps in the build-up of the game and who, using his experience, helps the team in difficult defensive moments. He will be an asset to the team,” commented ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Juan Ferrando on the new signing.
Subsequently, he once again made a return to A-league as he signed with Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014. After his impressive show for the club, he was given the captaincy baton. The defender played a total of 79 matches for the club and also scored four goals.
In 2019, he made a move to Western United FC in A-league. He made 20 appearances for the club during his two-year tenure.
Subsequently, he was roped in by Melbourne Victory Club in 2021 and he scored a total of three goals in 18 matches for the team.
Hamill will look to bring his best for the Mariners and deliver the goods along with Tiri in the defensive line. The Australian has all the experience and he will look to make the most of it.
Meanwhile, ATK Mohun Bagan had qualified for the semifinal stages after 10 wins in 20 league stage games in the previous season of the Hero ISL. However, their journey was ended when they lost to eventual champions Hyderabad FC by 3-2 on aggregate in the semifinal.
