FC Goa midfielder Edu Bedia shares a very close bond with the club. The Spanish footballer stated that FC is not just another club in his career, he has something special with it. Bedia had joined hands with the Gaurs back in 2017 and since then he has played a key role for the club in the midfield.
Bedia will now team up with new head coach Carlos Pena, who was his teammate when FC Goa won the League Winner’s Shield in the 2019-20 season.
Ahead of the ninth season of the Hero ISL, Bedia extended the contract with the club as he stated that he only wanted to play for FC Goa.
“At the moment, FC Goa is not just another club in my career. I have something special with this club. It’s my sixth year here and I have seen a lot of things change, not just at the club but even in ISL from my first year in India,” Bedia told Sportskeeda.
Bedia has made the most appearances as a foreign player for a single club in the history of the ISL. The Spaniard has played 87 matches for the Gaurs, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists.
Meanwhile, FC Goa had a disappointing run in Hero ISL 2021-22 season as they managed only four wins in 20 matches to finish at ninth place in the standings, and thus they could not qualify for the semifinals.
“Yes, the last two seasons have been difficult for us. Not just for FC Goa but all the other teams too because living inside the bubble was a crazy thing. Now we want to forget last season and improve. I think we have to put the past behind us and focus on the pre-season and then the ISL,” said Bedia.
FC Goa will kick off their ISL 2022-23 campaign against East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on the 12th of October.
