Kerala Blasters FC defender Ruivah Hormipam is hopeful to have a long footballing career. The youngster has shown the potential to go a long way in his career and he has been growing in confidence while playing at the Tuskers.
The center-back, who hails from Somdal, played all of the 20 league stage matches for Kerala Blasters FC in the ongoing season and played a key role in helping the club finish in fifth place in the standings.
Hormipam recalled his teen days when he used to get scolded after playing football and coming late to home.
“I honestly cannot remember the number of times I have been scolded and, on some occasions, caned by my parents for coming home late and dirty after a game of football beyond the allowed time,” Hormipam told Village Square in an exclusive interview.
Meanwhile, back in 2016, Hormipam’s friend Semmi informed him about the football trials, which the Sports Authority of India was conducting during that time.
“For four days, I hid in his room. We were quite discreet about how I left the room for the trials and how I came back after the trials so that no one would notice. We shared his food, and I stayed in his room until the trials got over,” Hormipam stated.
On the other hand, Kerala Blasters had lost to Hyderabad FC in the final of the previous season on penalties and the defender recalled it was painful.
“It still hurts, losing on penalties in the manner that we did,” the 22-year-old defender said.
Meanwhile, despite Hormipam’s success in the ISL, his parents continue to work in farming and the youngster is proud of the same.
“It’s part of who they are. They don’t need to work in the fields to support us anymore but they’re proud farmers who take much pride in the dignity of their labour. I’m proud of them for this,” Hormipam opined.
“I just hope I can have a long career so I can do two things – play football and support my family,” Hormipam concluded.
