ISL 2022-23: It feels like home at Mumbai: MCFC forward Bipin Singh

Mumbai City FC forward Bipin Singh has opined that it feels at home at the club. Singh has taken giant strides while playing for the Islanders after he made a move from ATK FC in the 2018-19 season. Singh has played a key role in the success of the team since he joined the club.

Singh is also Mumbai City’s leading goal scorer as he has delivered for the team. The 27-year-old from Manipur has scored 17 goals in 81 appearances for the club. Furthermore, he played an instrumental role in the success of the club in the ISL 2020-21 season.

“Abhi toh ghar jaise hogaya hai (It’s like home now). Everyone from the staff, management and teammates have become like a family to me,” exclaimed Bipin in an exclusive interview with Football Counter.

Bipin had scored six goals each in the previous two seasons of the tournament and he wants to keep improving to score more goals for the team.

“Last season, I scored 6 goals, and in the season before I had scored six goals too. I had a few assists also in these seasons. My current aim is to increase the tally, score more than six goals for the club and win more matches,” stated Bipin.

Meanwhile, Mumbai was able to rope in players like Greg Stewart, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Rostyn Griffiths, and Alberto Noguera. Bipin said that there is good competition in the squad.

“It’s a good thing, there should be competitiveness within the team, helps you push harder and not take things lightly. Every player has to give his best in the training to prove his place in the team. This competition helps us to give our 100%; everybody knows the spot in the team is not to be taken for granted. We know we have to work and look for improvement all the time,” added Bipin.

Singh now has the experience of playing under the tutelage of coaches like Jorge Costa, Sergio Lobera, and now Des Buckingham. The Manipur-born revealed Jorge Costa helped him in his aggression.

“Jorge Costa made me a fighter and to be a bit aggressive. Earlier I wasn’t that aggressive or a fighter but he changed that. Then Lobera came and he expected us to play in a certain way and I became a regular in the line-up during his time,” he averred.

Mumbai played a 2-2 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan in their last game. Mumbai City FC will next take on Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.
